In a nut shell. They are all the same word for a short sleeve shirt with a button placket and collar. 15 years ago there were only a handful of sport shirts for women. Today the selection is excellent. Most mens styles come in companion ladies versions, styled and cut to fit the feminine figure. A few years back many office setting started allowing Casual Fridays, Throw off the suit coats and ties and be comfortable in khakis and sport shirts. The pricing of a sport shirt varies greatly depending on a few variables: CUT and FABRICATION CUT: Use of higher end buttons, no shrink, and no curl fabrics for the collars add to the cost of a garment. Extra features like creating side vents, and side seems to the body of the shirt or adding double rows of stitching on the placket, sleeves or collar are also indications of a nicer quality shirt. FABRICATION: Pre-washed fabrics are a must. If you have had a shirt that shrunk down a size or 2, you know that it was definitely not pre-washed. In the use of cotton, the ounces tell the tale. Higher valued shirts have lower ounces of cotton. This is because a softer, finer strand of cotton was used to weave the item. Thicker, heavier weaves are less expensive because it take less time and less cotton to weave these fabrics. Today we have a complexity of choices including the ever popular polyester/cotton blends and the newer moisture wicking 100% polyester fabrics. Created to pull sweat away from the body, these fabrics are a great choice for todays active lifestyle. Today there is a sport shirt for every figure, usage, and budget. Topped off with high quality embroidery, even the lower priced shirt can look spectacular.
